Judith Andrew, Catherine Swift and Garth Whyte of the CFIB present 30,000 action alerts from CFIB members to the Hon. Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance

CFIB's Major Campaign to Increase Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption A Success!

Issue:
  • The $500,000 Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption (LCGE) did not adequately reflect the size and scope of today's agricultural industry.
  • The LCGE has not increased since 1987.
  • An increase in the LCGE would:
    • Ensure a smooth transition of agri-businesses to a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.
    • Provide agri-business owners with some retirement security.
CFIB Action:
  • More than 30,000 Action Alerts from CFIB members delivered to MPs across Canada.
Result:
  • The Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption was increased from $500,000 to $750,000 in the 2007 federal budget.
"I would like to acknowledge the leadership of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business in championing this reform."
-Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance in Federal budget speech 2007.
