Bill C-257 - Defeated
A Victory for Agri-Business!

Issue:

• A private member's bill that would have banned replacement workers during a strike or lock-out at federally regulated industries including railways, air, truck, marine transport, ports, mail and telecommunications.
• Significant financial implications to agri-businesses resulting from extended periods of interrupted service.

CFIB Action:

• CFIB launched a major campaign to defeat this bill.
• CFIB coordinated over 60 meetings with MPs across Canada to urge them to vote against Bill C-257.
• 10,000 members expressed their concerns to their MPs directly through CFIB faxes, e-mails and phone calls.

Result:

• Bill C-257 was defeated in the House of Commons at third and final vote.
